The Secretary of Welfare, Ariadna Montiel, announced that starting in August, registration will begin for women aged 60 to 63 for the Women's Welfare Pension. This measure will expand the program's reach, benefiting two million additional women beyond those already receiving this support. The goal is to ensure that by the end of the year, women aged 60 to 64 are also covered by the pension.
This announcement was made during the 'morning session for the people', where procedures and dates for registration for the Women's Welfare Pension were detailed. The registration period will run from Monday, August 4, to Saturday, August 30. Montiel highlighted that the Women's Welfare Pension will become universal for people aged 60 to 64 in 2025.
The Women's Welfare Pension, one of the social programs promoted by President Claudia Sheinbaum, involves a bimonthly payment of 3,000 pesos to elderly women who do not yet qualify for the Welfare Pension. This support is provided in odd months and the payment schedule is organized alphabetically.
On the occasion of International Women's Day, Sheinbaum emphasized the recognition of the work done by women dedicated to household tasks. It is expected that the expansion of the Women's Welfare Pension will benefit a larger number of women, providing them with financial support in this stage of their lives.
Additionally, it was informed that in Durango and Veracruz there will be a double payment of the Women's Welfare Pension this month, due to local elections taking place in June. This measure aims to prevent any violation of the electoral ban, anticipating the payment for one bimonthly period of the program.
