Priorities for Early Childhood Care in Mexico

A recent forum in Mexico highlighted the importance of collaboration between civil society and the government to ensure the necessary attention to early childhood. Early Institute expressed its commitment to working on education, health, nutrition, and protection for children. Researchers, academics, lawmakers, and organizational leaders gathered to discuss public policies in favor of the 12.4 million Mexican children in that age range.

During the meeting, urgent challenges were identified, such as violence, poverty, lack of vaccination, malnutrition, and the need for positive parenting. In the discussion framework on the initiative to create a National Care System, recommendations were proposed to strengthen the project. The need to address children facing extreme poverty and violence was emphasized, reminding that 1 in 10 Mexican children live under those conditions.

The Mexican think tank Early Institute, specialized in early childhood, participated in the forum, highlighting the urgency of taking measures to guarantee the rights and development of children from an early age. The importance of creating safe environments for their growth, strengthening care during the prenatal and postnatal stages, and ensuring the training of healthcare personnel was underscored.

The event "Early Childhood Care Priorities 2024-2030" was attended by senator Anahí González Hernández from the Morena party, who organized the day. Participants agreed on the need for immediate action to protect the most vulnerable children and improve their living conditions. In this context, establishing alliances and collaborative efforts emerged as a fundamental strategy to address the issues affecting childhood in the country.
