Students from Tecmilenio, Las Torres campus in Nuevo León, protested to demand justice for Rudy, a 16-year-old teenager who reported being sexually assaulted by at least five classmates in the institution's bathrooms. The youths indicated that Rudy suffers from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and was beaten and sexually assaulted by his classmates on March 11 in the bathrooms on the third floor.
The school authorities invited the protesting students to dialogue to clarify what happened, and some parents joined the protest. The principal of the institution, Alejandra Preciado, mentioned that they did not yet have a formal complaint regarding the sexual assault on Rudy but asserted that they were following protocols to ensure the safety and well-being of the students.
The governor of Nuevo León, Samuel García, expressed that he was aware of the case and in contact with the relevant authorities and the school's administration to assist in the investigation of the sexual abuse at the school. In a social media message, García emphasized support for the victims and the determination to get to the bottom of what happened, assuring that any crime must be punished.
The Attorney General's Office of Nuevo León reported that agents went to the campus following the behaviors reported in previous days at the Las Torres Campus of a private university, and that an investigation file was opened and is currently under active investigation.
On the other hand, in a similar case in March 2023, the Autonomous University of Nuevo León (UANL) suspended students involved in a sexual abuse act against Juan Manuel Rodríguez González during a 'hazing'. The institution determined the suspension of academic rights for one year for the students involved and for three years for alumni and participating administrative staff, establishing that none of the nine individuals may be part of the UANL staff in any capacity.
