In the state of Querétaro, a third fire has occurred this week, raising concerns about the risks they pose to both the population and natural resources, as well as emergency personnel. The State Coordination of Civil Protection of Querétaro issued a statement warning about the devastating consequences of these fires, not only in terms of loss of life and material damage, but also in nature with the loss of biodiversity, air pollution, soil erosion, and the impact on climate contributing to atmospheric warming.
The most recent fire occurred in the community of La Tinaja, between the municipalities of Pinal de Amoles and Arroyo Seco, where around 40 hectares of vegetation were consumed by the flames. Fortunately, no injuries or damage to structures were reported as a result of this incident. The area primarily affected by this forest fire consists of shrubs, brush, and oaks in a closed area.
The response to this fire involved more than 220 state and municipal civil protection personnel who worked to contain the fire. Combat activities included the expansion of firebreaks, extinguishing detected hot spots, and ventilating affected areas through thorough ground inspections. After controlling the fire, a call was made to the population to follow preventive measures and avoid actions such as burning grasslands and lighting bonfires that could trigger similar emergencies.
