Members of the Collective Families United for Nayarit (Cofaunay) are preparing to launch a campaign against the forced recruitment of young people, with a main focus on schools, revealed the group's leader, Elia Cervantes Ibarra. She pointed out that they are conducting campaigns with young people in high schools, as they have observed an increase in cases of recruitment through mobile games and other platforms.
"They will also seek to engage mothers and fathers to remind them of the importance of monitoring their children's activities and who they interact with," expressed Elia Cervantes Ibarra. Regarding forced recruitment, the leader of the collective mentioned that they do not have precise statistics on the number of people recruited in Nayarit. It is also unknown how many have been rescued, as for safety reasons, many victims avoid sharing information that could expose them again.
"As far as statistics are concerned, we don't have them because many choose to remain silent, and if they decide to speak up, very few do," Cervantes Ibarra stated. Despite the lack of figures, authorities have reported rescues of young people who were being recruited under false job offers, especially in the border areas between Nayarit and Jalisco.
In relation to the findings of clothing in Teuchitlán, Jalisco, Elia Cervantes Ibarra expressed that this gives them hope, as it could mean finding their loved ones alive. Each piece of clothing discovered in the area represents an individual who was present at that location, generating uncertainty about their whereabouts.
The leader of Cofaunay mentioned that they are waiting for the procedures established by the Attorney General's Office (FGR) before going to identify the clothing found in Teuchitlán. "We are awaiting the protocols from the attorney's offices, the process of cataloging and cleaning the clothing before reviewing them, which will take time."
Finally, Elia Cervantes Ibarra shared that the discovery of these clothing items has generated mixed feelings among the families of the missing persons, who face the possibility of finding their loved ones alive or, unfortunately, deceased. The uncertainty and duality of emotions complicate this process of search and hope amid pain.
