UNAM Addresses Sexual Assault Incident at CCH Sur

The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) issued a statement to inform about the attempted sexual abuse against a minor student from the College of Sciences and Humanities (CCH) South campus. The complaint was made public on April 8 by the student's mother through her social media, one day after the incident in which two men, apparently students, assaulted her on her way to class.

The woman recounted: "My daughter, a minor student from CCH South at UNAM, was buying candy when she was verbally assaulted by two males." Later, while heading to another building for classes, she was intercepted again by the same men, who physically assaulted her. The mother mentioned that reports of bullying against the minor had previously been made in February.

The mother detailed the state in which she found her daughter: "When I arrived for her, my daughter was in shock, screaming and crying about what happened." The student provided authorities with detailed descriptions of the attackers; however, they have not yet been identified despite the presence of cameras on campus.

The mother expressed her astonishment: "It is unbelievable that in an institution like UNAM, in a campus that is also in a rocky area, with so many cameras, they cannot find the individuals responsible for the abuse my daughter suffered." The woman requested assistance in identifying those responsible.

UNAM confirmed that it provided support to the student after receiving a request for help at 11:15 AM on April 7. Staff from the General Secretariat and other members of the university offered support, including legal and psychological assistance to both the student and her mother.

In response to the events, the campus administration urged the student's family to report to the Attorney General's Office of Mexico City to formalize the complaint, offering legal accompaniment from the institution. Despite these measures, the student's mother mentioned that the campus director did not approach them to offer help.
