An Aeroméxico plane traveling from Mexico City to Reynosa, a city located on the border with the United States, had to make an emergency landing on Tuesday after detecting smoke in the cabin, although fortunately no fire occurred. Mexico's largest airline issued a statement informing about the incident on flight AM2496, operated with an Embraer 190 aircraft.

"During the flight, smoke was detected in the cabin, with no fire detected," indicated the company. After the detection of smoke, the aircraft's captain decided to divert the flight to Tampico International Airport, located in the state of Tamaulipas, where the plane landed without complications. Although the cause of the incident has not been clarified, it was confirmed that passengers and crew were safe and did not require medical attention.

Aeroméxico stated that technical staff is inspecting the aircraft to determine the causes of the event and verify that it meets all necessary safety standards. The flight had taken off from Mexico City International Airport at 5:51 local time (11:51 GMT), with more than 80 passengers on board according to local press reports in Tampico.
