Suspension of Classes Amid Local Violence in Cańada del Real

In Cañada del Real, the publication of threats by a supposed local cartel has resulted in the immediate closure of schools in the area. The Maria Grever Primary School will not resume its regular activities for the time being, while parents will organize to establish voluntary guards at the entrance and exit of the students. As for telesecundarias 466 and 29, the return to classes is being evaluated with the support of a backpack operation and remotely, respectively, awaiting a security review by the Ministry of Education.

During a meeting, representatives of the school committees expressed their concern about the lack of constant police presence, despite the announced patrols. A mother, who preferred to remain anonymous, stated: "This is not the first time there have been gunfights in the area." In light of this situation, parents have demanded a permanent patrol in the area to ensure the safety of the students.

In the context of violence that Cañada del Real is experiencing, where three homicides were reported last Sunday and a series of gunfights occurred in April, a dispute over drug sales points has been identified as a possible origin of the events. Given the lack of response to the threats circulated on social media, mothers and fathers of the Maria Grever Primary School have decided to take charge of monitoring the entrance and exit of children, as well as implementing security measures such as the backpack operation and hybrid classes.

On April 29, messages began circulating in the neighborhood group "Cañada del Real" warning about possible attacks on students from the primary and telesecundarias 466 and 29. Authorities have acknowledged that these social media threats aim to create fear among the school population. In response to this situation, measures are being taken to ensure safety in schools and protect students in the community.
