In Mexico, cybercriminals are intensifying their attacks, placing the country in the top 10 worldwide of nations with the most banking trojan attacks. Over the last year, more than four thousand 140 attacks and damaged computers were recorded, resulting in thousands of compromised accounts, loss of money, and theft of financial data.
According to a report by Kaspersky, Mexico ranks among the most affected countries by cybercrime, particularly regarding financial malware. Although there was a decrease in the number of computer users affected by these types of threats, some families of banking trojans remain active and pose a significant risk.
Kaspersky identified some notable strains of banking trojans, including ClipBanker, Grandoreiro, CliptoShuffler, and BitStealer. Grandoreiro, in particular, is considered extremely dangerous, having attacked more than one thousand 700 banks and 276 cryptocurrency wallets in 45 countries.
Banking trojans, like Grandoreiro, infiltrate computers by disguising themselves as legitimate software and seek to steal banking credentials and sensitive data. To avoid being a victim of these attacks, it is recommended to download applications only from trusted sources, use secure and complex passwords, and avoid clicking on suspicious links.
Through the theft of confidential information, cybercriminals can access bank accounts, commit fraud, and steal money. Therefore, it is crucial to take preventive measures, such as using multifactor authentication and reliable security solutions to protect against banking trojans and other cyber threats.
