Rebeca Peralta, a deputy in the local Congress, proposed the implementation of "cat therapy" as a tool to achieve a successful social reintegration of former inmates. According to the legislator, this initiative can help foster empathy and improve the self-esteem of those who have been deprived of liberty.
In an intervention from the podium, Peralta highlighted that Correctional Centers are often associated with harshness and isolation, so the presence of cats in these places can provide small moments of affection that are necessary for personal transformation. The deputy emphasized that animals have the unique ability to offer affection and companionship unconditionally, making them a powerful tool for rehabilitation.
Peralta explained that the proposal for cat-assisted therapy is not just about introducing animals into the centers but about designing an intervention focused on the bond between former inmates and the felines. She urged various political forces to support her initiative, emphasizing that this opens the door to an innovative way of social reintegration and rehabilitation.
"I invite you to support this proposal and together we open the door to this innovative and compassionate way of fostering rehabilitation and the change towards successful reintegration," stated deputy Peralta.
