Cold front number 13, driven by an arctic air mass, entered northern and northeastern Mexico during the night from Saturday to Sunday. Its influence is expected to last until Tuesday, November 11, causing intense rains, a 'Norte' event (strong north winds), and a significant drop in temperature across various regions of the country.
On Sunday, November 9, the cold front is expected to move rapidly over the north, northeast, and east of the country, interacting with a low-pressure channel over the southeast. Intense downpours are forecast for Veracruz, Oaxaca, Tabasco, and Chiapas; very heavy rains for Hidalgo, Veracruz, and Puebla; and heavy rains for Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosí, Veracruz, Hidalgo, Puebla, and the Yucatán Peninsula. In other areas of the country, wind gusts of 35 to 70 km/h are expected, including in Mexico City, Morelos, Hidalgo, Puebla, and Querétaro.
During the early morning of Monday, November 10, snow or sleet could be recorded on the summits of the Pico de Orizaba and Cofre de Perote volcanoes. On Monday, the cold front will move over the southeast of the country and the Yucatán Peninsula, causing torrential downpours in Veracruz and Oaxaca; intense rains in Puebla, Veracruz, Chiapas, and Tabasco; very strong rains in Hidalgo and Veracruz; and strong rains in Puebla, Hidalgo, Campeche, and Quintana Roo. The 'Norte' event will intensify with wind gusts of 90 to 110 km/h on the coasts of Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Oaxaca, and Chiapas, and waves of 4 to 5 meters.
On Tuesday, November 11, the arctic air mass is expected to maintain a cold to very cold environment in the north, northeast, east, and center of the country, with possible frost in the Mesa del Norte and Mesa Central, while winds will continue with gusts of 50 to 100 km/h in various coastal regions, gradually decreasing during the day.
In response to these conditions, the National Civil Protection Coordination (CNPC) of the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection announced that, on the instructions of President Claudia Sheinbaum, Command Posts have been established to strengthen preventive actions, monitor vulnerable areas, and ensure a rapid response. The agency also warned that these rains could increase the levels of rivers and streams, as well as cause flooding, landslides, and inundations.
Additionally, the following safety recommendations were issued:
'Important! This is in coordination with the authorities of Hidalgo, Puebla, and Veracruz. Furthermore, the population was called upon to maintain self-care measures.
