The National Meteorological Service (SMN) of the National Water Commission (Conagua) reported that Cold Front No. 16 will extend this Tuesday over the north and northeast of Mexico, and in interaction with the subtropical jet stream and a low-pressure channel, it will cause heavy downpours with electrical discharges in Nuevo León and Tamaulipas, as well as showers in Coahuila and San Luis Potosí. The SMN indicated that for Wednesday, Cold Front No. 16 will be reinforced by a polar air mass from northwestern Canada, slowly moving over the northeast and east of the country. The interaction with a low-pressure channel over the southwest of the Gulf of Mexico and the southeast of the territory will cause a marked drop in temperature and heavy to very heavy rains in these regions, with intense downpours in areas of Puebla and Veracruz. Additionally, an event of 'Norte' will be registered with wind gusts of up to 80 km/h and waves of 1.5 to 2.5 meters in the Isthmus and Gulf of Tehuantepec, as well as gusts of 40 to 60 km/h and waves of 1.0 to 2.0 meters on the coasts of Tamaulipas and Veracruz. Wind gusts of 40 to 60 km/h are also expected over entities of the Mesa del Norte and the Mesa Central, including the Valley of Mexico. For Thursday, Cold Front No. 16 will extend over the Yucatán Peninsula and the southwest of the Gulf of Mexico, maintaining its interaction with a low-pressure channel in the southeast of Mexico. This will generate intense downpours in areas of Puebla, Veracruz, and Oaxaca, very heavy in Tabasco and Chiapas, as well as intervals of showers in Coahuila, Zacatecas, Guanajuato, State of Mexico, Tlaxcala, Campeche, Yucatán, and Quintana Roo. The polar air mass driving the front will maintain the 'Norte' event, with wind gusts of 70 to 90 km/h and waves of 2.0 to 3.0 meters in Oaxaca (Isthmus and Gulf of Tehuantepec), 50 to 70 km/h with waves of 1.5 to 2.5 meters on the coast of Veracruz, and 40 to 60 km/h with waves of 1.0 to 2.0 meters on the coasts of Tamaulipas, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán, and Quintana Roo. A cold to very cold environment is also expected in the north, northeast, east, and center of the country, with wind gusts of 30 to 50 km/h in the Mesa del Norte and the Mesa Central, including the Valley of Mexico. The National Civil Protection Coordination (CNPC) reported that it maintains constant communication with state and municipal authorities to reinforce preparation protocols for Cold Front No. 16. In a press release, it urged the population to follow the warnings of the National Meteorological Service (SMN) and the indications of Civil Protection, as well as to take self-care measures due to the risk of heavy rains, temperature drops, and possible mobility disruptions.
