INPer Consolidates Its Role as an International Leader in Perinatal Medicine

On its 48th anniversary, the National Institute of Perinatology (INPer) reaffirms its position as a leading center for maternal and perinatal health, consolidating its role in fetal surgery, genomics, and precision medicine.

The National Institute of Perinatology “Isidro Espinosa de los Reyes” (INPer) consolidates its role as an international benchmark in fetal surgery, genomics, and precision medicine. On its 48th anniversary, the INPer reaffirms its position as one of the main reference centers for maternal and perinatal health in Mexico and Latin America, consolidating a trajectory that articulates specialized clinical care, advanced research, and professional training with a humanistic approach. This academic approach, articulated with a humanistic vision, positions the INPer as a unique training space for professionals committed to transforming maternal-perinatal health in Mexico. Throughout this journey, the institution has developed capabilities that integrate clinical research, innovative diagnostics, and specialized treatment, establishing itself as an international benchmark in fetal surgery, genomics, precision medicine, and other fields that redefine contemporary practices in perinatology. Among the most significant advances, the General Director highlighted the consolidation of cutting-edge technologies and the participation of the medical, nursing, research, and administrative staff, who have sustained institutional excellence. In the scientific sphere, the institution ranks among the most productive in the country, underpinning its prestige with the continuous generation of knowledge. In the field of medical education, the institute has developed a training model that integrates clinical excellence, research, and professional competencies. This work has strengthened the reduction of maternal, fetal, and neonatal risks through highly specialized medical surveillance services, care for extreme prematurity, and the use of state-of-the-art diagnostic tools. Likewise, the INPer has contributed to the standardization of evidence-based practices for the care of conditions such as preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, congenital malformations, and preterm birth, maintaining a scheme of free care for the population in a situation of vulnerability. During the commemoration, the General Director of the institute, Ana Cristina Arteaga Gómez, emphasized that these almost five decades represent a period of institutional maturation, built through the millions of stories of patients, families, and health teams that have driven its growth as a high-specialty center. Founded on December 8, 1977, the INPer has strengthened its role as a national pillar in the care of high-risk pregnancies and in the management of complex fetal and neonatal conditions. Under this structure, residents train in a multidisciplinary environment characterized by the complexity of clinical cases, access to high-fidelity simulation, and systematic feedback processes.
