The Government of Mexico has presented the National Strategy for a Dignified Menstruation in Basic and Upper Secondary Education. This initiative, led by the Secretariats of Public Education (SEP) and Health (SSA), aims to recognize menstrual health as a fundamental human right and a decisive component in preventing school dropout among adolescents and young people. The strategy targets over 11.6 million students across thousands of schools nationwide. As part of the initiative, educational materials, menstrual literacy campaigns, guidance actions, and menstrual management kits will be implemented. These measures seek to strengthen self-care capabilities, break down persistent cultural barriers, and establish institutional practices of support. This implementation will strengthen public health, promote school attendance, and contribute to closing substantive equality gaps for adolescents, young people, and all menstruating people in the country. With this initiative, the Government of Mexico is advancing towards an integral policy that ensures menstruating is not a cause of absenteeism, discrimination, or shame, but a process accompanied by information, access, respect, and dignity.
