CNPC urges to reinforce self-care measures due to cold front in Mexico

The National Civil Protection Coordination (CNPC) urged the population in the southeast of the country to reinforce self-care measures due to adverse weather conditions caused by Cold Front 19, which remains stationary over the western Caribbean Sea.

CNPC warned that rainy conditions will persist in Yucatan, Tabasco, Quintana Roo, and Chiapas, with heavy local downpours that could cause flooding, rising river and stream levels, and possible landslides in hillside areas.

Wind from the north is also forecast for the Isthmus and Gulf of Tehuantepec, with possible effects on small vessels and navigation risks.

Furthermore, the approach of a new Cold Front to the country's northeast border will cause gusts of wind of 30 to 50 km/h in Coahuila, Nuevo León, and Tamaulipas, mainly in coastal areas, plains, and deserts.

CNPC emphasized the importance of adopting preventive and self-care measures, including:

– Avoid crossing rivers, streams, flooded areas, or fast currents during heavy rains. – Stay away from unstable slopes, embankments, and areas at risk of landslides. – Secure objects that could be swept away by water or wind. – Check drains and keep drains and canals clear. – Secure loose objects such as sheets, planters, awnings, and signs in the event of strong winds. – Exercise extreme caution when traveling on streets with power lines or tall trees. – Small vessels must follow instructions from the Port Captaincy and avoid navigation if so determined. – Remain attentive to information issued by state and municipal Civil Protection authorities and official weather advisories, avoiding the dissemination of unverified information. – Stay informed through the social media of CNPCmx and Conagua_clima.

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service (SMN) specified that a "Norte" event continues with gusts of wind of 50 to 70 km/h in the Isthmus and Gulf of Tehuantepec, with sustained wind speeds of 30 to 40 km/h that will decrease in the afternoon in Oaxaca.

The new Cold Front approaching the north and northeast of the country will maintain its influence until at least December 12, with gusts of wind of 30 to 50 km/h in Coahuila, Nuevo León, and Tamaulipas, and will be stationary over the northeast of the country for the next few days.

Regarding winter conditions, frosts are expected in mountainous areas of several states in the north, center, and west of the country.

Temperatures below -5°C with frosts are expected in Chihuahua, Durango, Baja California, Sonora, State of Mexico, Tlaxcala, and Puebla, as well as possible frosts in Coahuila, Nuevo León, San Luis Potosí, Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, Jalisco, Michoacán, Guanajuato, Hidalgo, Veracruz, and Oaxaca.
