Fourth Winter Storm and Cold Front 40 to Bring Heavy Rains and Winds to Mexico

Fourth Winter Storm and Cold Front 40 to Bring Heavy Rains and Winds to Mexico

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) of the National Water Commission (Conagua) forecasts very strong winds in these regions, with a cold to very cold environment and possible snow or sleet in the mountainous areas of Sonora, Chihuahua, Durango, and Sinaloa. During the afternoon and night of that day, the fourth winter storm is expected to move south into the United States and stop affecting Mexico; however, cold front number 40 will continue its advance through the northeast of the country and interact with the warm, humid air coming from the Gulf of Mexico, which will increase the probability of the formation of tornadoes in Coahuila, Nuevo León, and Tamaulipas. Showers and heavy rains are expected in both regions, as well as possible snow or sleet in the mountains of Baja California and northern Sonora. Likewise, strong winds with possible dust storms are expected in northern Mexico, with gusts reaching between 60 and 80 kilometers per hour in the states of Chihuahua and Durango. On Tuesday, the fourth winter storm and cold front number 40 will cross the northern country, causing showers and heavy rains in Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, and Tamaulipas. Cold front number 39 will extend this Sunday as a stationary system over the northeast of the country, causing wind gusts of between 40 and 60 kilometers per hour, as well as showers and heavy rains with electrical discharges and possible hail in Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, and San Luis Potosí. According to the National Meteorological Service (SMN) of the National Water Commission (Conagua), it is expected that subsequently the frontal system will move south into the United States and stop affecting the national territory. On the other hand, a cyclonic circulation in the middle and high levels of the atmosphere, in combination with the polar and subtropical jet streams, will give rise to the fourth winter storm of the season over the northwest of Mexico. This system will interact with a new cold front, number 40, which will cause a new drop in temperature, strong winds, and rain in the region, as well as possible snow or sleet in the Sierra San Pedro Mártir and La Rumorosa, in Baja California. For Monday, the fourth winter storm of the season and cold front number 40 will move over the northwest and north of the country, maintaining a cold to very cold environment.
