Mexico's Secretary of Health, David Kershenobich, provided information on vitamin infusions, a situation that has already claimed six lives in Sonora. Therefore, the official urged the public not to receive these substances. "First, go to a place with sanitary registration, and second, understand that many of these infusions are useless; people receive them with their vitamins and urinate them out the same day," he indicated. From the National Palace, the federal official detailed that there are currently 10 people affected in the north of the country, six of whom have died, two have been discharged, and two remain hospitalized in serious condition. "There is an eleventh case where the person did not receive an infusion but did receive an injection in the knee and also showed symptoms; that person has also been discharged," he detailed. Why did people die from vitamin infusions? Meanwhile, David Kershenobich, Secretary of Health, reported that all samples collected in the cases are being analyzed by Cofepris, and there are already preliminary results and clinical analyses of the patients. "They had a very rapid onset of symptoms; some patients survived for only two days. From the samples that were taken from some of them, there is evidence that there may be some bacterial contamination because they had very high white blood cell counts and intramuscular clotting, which are phenomena associated with sepsis," he explained. Likewise, Kershenobich mentioned that the composition of the infusions is also being analyzed, as initial tests show they contained not only vitamins, as some providers advertised this product as "stem cells." "The analysis is being done, I ask for a little patience to have all the information and analyze what really happened," he added.
