Sheinbaum criticizes UN report on enforced disappearances in Mexico

President Claudia Sheinbaum criticized the UN Committee on Enforced Disappearances (CED) report, suggesting it has a 'hidden motive.' She stated that the committee did not approach the Mexican government for observations and advancements before issuing its conclusions. Sheinbaum highlighted the case of former Secretary of Security Hernán Bermúdez as proof that the Mexican government is acting against enforced disappearances. She also claimed the report has a 'critical orientation' towards the Mexican government and that the government will hold a press conference to present technical, academic, and legal arguments to expose the 'flaws' in the report it rejects. The CED report stated that the situation in Mexico has not shown substantial improvement and that authorities are 'overwhelmed by the magnitude of the crisis.'
