Three fishermen were rescued off the "Emerald Coast" of Yucatán after their boat sank due to Tropical Storm Nadine, which has now turned into a tropical depression. In a video shared on social media, the crew of the boat 'Propemex 14' can be seen approaching a group of fishermen floating, holding onto barrels and buoys, amid the turbulent waters.
The fishermen indicated that their boat "sank", and the crew of the vessel asked how many fishermen there were. "There were five of us, but we lost two," one of the fishermen replied. Shortly after, they threw a life ring as they approached their location. Local media confirmed with Yucatecan authorities that it was the San Crisanto X boat, based in Puerto Progreso, which sank due to the strong waves caused by Storm Nadine.
Yucatán's Secretary of Fisheries, Lilia Frías, reported that the fishermen spent 15 hours at sea. The sinking occurred on October 16 and the rescue took place a day later, on the 17th. The fishermen had set out to sea on Saturday, October 12.
"Now that we are calm, we are going to throw you the ring," said the rescuers while trying to soothe the three men. "Don't panic, we're coming!" they assured them.
