Tropical Depression Nadine and Cold Front 5 Impact Mexico

Tropical Depression Nadine brings intense rains and cold front effects across Mexico, causing heavy precipitation and potential hail in various states. Authorities urge caution.

Tropical Depression Nadine and Cold Front 5 Impact Mexico

In Mexico, heavy rains and low temperatures are expected due to the influence of tropical depression Nadine and cold front number 5. According to the National Meteorological Service (SMN) of the National Water Commission (Conagua), it is forecast that the remnants of Nadine will enter the Gulf of Tehuantepec and combine with a low-pressure channel extending over the northeast, east, and southeast of the country, which will cause intense to torrential rains in those regions and in southern Mexico. There is a possibility of hail in some areas.

Regarding the coasts of Guerrero, Oaxaca, Veracruz, Chiapas, Tabasco, and Campeche, strong to very strong winds, elevated surf, and possible formation of waterspouts are expected. On the other hand, cold front number 5 will remain stationary over the northwest and north of the national territory. Extraordinary point rains are forecast in states such as Puebla, Veracruz, and Oaxaca, as well as showers and strong to very strong rains in the Yucatan Peninsula and central Mexico.

Additionally, a decrease in temperature, strong winds with dust storms, and an increase in the probability of rains and showers in various regions are expected due to the interaction of the cold front with a low-pressure center aloft and jet streams. Likewise, a low-pressure channel over the west of the country, combined with moisture from the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico, will result in rains and showers in that region.

As for Hurricane Oscar, it is currently located 1,515 kilometers from the coasts of Quintana Roo, with maximum sustained winds of 140 km/h and gusts of 165 km/h. Despite its category 1 on the Saffir-Simpson scale, it remains far from posing an immediate danger to Mexican territory due to its distance and trajectory, although it is under constant monitoring. It is recommended that the population stay informed and take the necessary precautions against the potential risks that adverse weather conditions may cause in various regions of the country.
