Microseismic Report in Coyoacan, CDMX

In the early morning of Sunday, October 20, a micro-sismo was recorded in the Coyoacán borough of Mexico City (CDMX), with the epicenter specifically beside the Parque de los Venados. Despite its low magnitude of 1.5, some people in the surrounding areas reported feeling a slight but clear tremor, generating concern among the neighbors.

The early warning system for earthquakes and multiple natural hazards, SkyAlert, communicated that the event occurred in a fairly busy area of the Benito Juárez borough, where it was also felt. These types of micro-sismos are common in CDMX, particularly in areas like Coyoacán, due to their more perceptible seismic activity by geological location.

Despite the strong perceptions in the neighborhoods near the epicenter, no material damage or injuries were reported from the micro-sismo. Although it was not confirmed by all monitoring stations due to its low magnitude and distance from the monitoring network, SkyAlert emphasized the importance of maintaining constant vigilance for any seismic events that may pose a greater risk.

The National Seismological Service (SSN) detailed that the earthquake occurred at 04:33:50 hours, with a latitude of 19.37, longitude -99.15, and a depth of 1 kilometer, 3 kilometers northeast of Coyoacán. Authorities and monitoring systems continue to issue alerts to inform the public about potential seismic risks in the region.
