
The National Meteorological Service (SMN) of the National Water Commission (Conagua) has reported that the center of tropical storm Kristy is located south-southwest of the coasts of Michoacán. The storm will cause heavy to very heavy rainfall, strong winds, and high waves in western Mexico states. Additionally, it is expected to enhance the probability of downpours and heavy sporadic rains in northern and central regions of the country.
In its most recent bulletin, the SMN detailed that Kristy is located 480 km south-southwest of Punta San Telmo, Michoacán, and 605 km west-southwest of Acapulco, Guerrero. The storm is moving northwest at a speed of 24 km/h, with maximum sustained winds of 85 km/h and gusts of up to 100 km/h.
Very heavy sporadic rains are expected in Jalisco, and strong sporadic rains in Nayarit, Colima, Michoacán, and Guerrero. In addition, winds with gusts of 40 to 60 km/h and waves of 1 to 3 meters in height are forecasted on the coasts of Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, and Guerrero in western Mexico.
In light of this situation, the SMN recommends the general population to take precautions in the mentioned areas due to rains, winds, and waves, including maritime navigation. It is advisable to follow the recommendations of the Civil Protection authorities of each federal entity.
