Honorary Recognition for Dr. Gabriela Borrayo Sánchez

The IMSS recognized Dr. Gabriela Borrayo Sánchez for her 30 years of medical contributions, particularly the program 'A todo Corazón, Código Infarto' which saved 6,000 lives since 2015. The ceremony took place at Teatro Reforma, highlighting her exemplary career in cardiology and commitment to improving health care.


The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) has recognized the 30 years of experience of Dr. Gabriela Borrayo Sánchez, creator of the program "A Todo Corazón, Código Infarto", which has saved the lives of approximately 6,000 people since its implementation in 2015. The ceremony in honor of Dr. Borrayo Sánchez took place at the Teatro Reforma "Juan Moisés Calleja" and was attended by IMSS authorities, members of the H. Technical Council, heads of coordinations, and medical colleagues who praised her work throughout three decades.

During her time at IMSS, Dr. Borrayo Sánchez held several positions, such as head of the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit and director of the High Specialty Medical Unit (UMAE) Cardiology Hospital of the National Medical Center (CMN) Siglo XXI. Her performance has significantly contributed to improving the quality of life of beneficiaries, culminating in her institutional retirement process.

Dr. Borrayo Sánchez thanked her colleagues and highlighted the collaboration with the Medical Benefits and Innovation and Technological Development Directorates of Social Security during her time as head of the Health Innovation Coordination. She emphasized the importance of institutional commitment and underscored the positive impact of the "A Todo Corazón, Código Infarto" Program, which saves lives daily, as well as the implementation of the Brain Code Program to improve disease control in patients with diabetes and hypertension.

At the ceremony, the IMSS Secretary General, Marcos Bucio, praised the example and exemplary contribution of Dr. Borrayo Sánchez, which has been reflected in the Hippocratic oath fulfilled with creativity and enthusiasm. It was also mentioned that she was appointed secretary general of the Faculty of Medicine at UNAM by the director of that institution, Dr. Ana Carolina Sepúlveda Vildósola. Dr. Célida Duque Molina, director of Medical Benefits at IMSS, praised the integrity, values, and leadership of Dr. Borrayo Sánchez, highlighting the success of the work model implemented by her team during the COVID-19 pandemic.

As part of her legacy, Dr. Borrayo Sánchez has led multiple initiatives in research, teaching, and medical care at both undergraduate and graduate levels, including the PRIISMA project, Congresses of Mexican Women Leaders, Mental Health, and HIV. She has also worked on the development of comprehensive care policies for various diseases. In recognition of her work, institutional authorities presented her with an award for her outstanding trajectory and commitment during her 30 years of service at IMSS.
