The Diversity Directorate of Jalisco, in collaboration with SALME and The Trevor Project, has presented the Guide to Care for the LGBT+ Population in Mental Health Institutions in the State of Jalisco. The main objective of this document is to ensure inclusive, comprehensive, and respectful care for the LGBT+ community in mental health institutions. The guide aims to overcome the barriers and inequalities that this population faces when trying to access quality mental health services, offering a clear course of action based on Human Rights and free of discrimination.
"These elements are essential to foster an environment where people feel safe and respected," stated the team behind the guide. Among the main objectives of this document are to ensure medical and paramedical care without discrimination, establish clear guidelines for services in the State Health Network, and develop specific criteria for the follow-up and referral of LGBTIQ+ individuals.
The director of the Jalisco Institute of Mental Health and Addictions, Jorge Antonio Blanco Sierra, highlighted that the guide seeks not only to inform but also to empower LGBT+ individuals by providing tools and recommendations for their daily care. This initiative aims to train health personnel to prevent discrimination and promote an environment of respect.
Ana Luz Padilla, director of Diversity of Jalisco, emphasized the importance of this guide as a key tool for specialized care, designed to establish an effective route to health services.
