Heavy Rains Forecasted in Mexico

This Saturday, at least six meteorological phenomena will cause heavy to intense rains in 10 states of Mexico, according to the National Meteorological Service (SMN). The most intense precipitation, between 75 and 150 millimeters, will affect Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, and Quintana Roo, while very strong rains will occur in Oaxaca, Veracruz, and Yucatán. Additionally, heavy punctual rains are expected in Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosí, and Puebla, as well as showers in other states in the north and center of the country.

In Tabasco and Veracruz, winds of up to 60 km/h are anticipated, with similar intensities in Campeche, Yucatán, and Quintana Roo. Possible dust storms are forecasted in regions of Baja California, Baja California Sur, Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, among other states. Minimum temperatures will range between -5 and 0 degrees Celsius in the mountains, with morning frosts. In some central areas of the country, temperatures will reach 0 to 5 degrees.

Maximum temperatures will vary between 40 and 45 degrees in entities such as Baja California Sur, Sinaloa, and Sonora. Other northwest and southeast states will register maximum temperatures between 30 and 40 degrees. The phenomena causing these conditions include low-pressure channels in the southeast and east, an upper-level trough, moisture influx from the Pacific Ocean, and other atmospheric elements.

These phenomena create conditions for thunderstorms, hail, and could cause puddles, flooding, and landslides. The Meteorological Service warned of winds with gusts of 60 to 80 km/h in the Isthmus and Gulf of Tehuantepec, with elevated waves of up to three meters primarily affecting Oaxaca and Chiapas.
