Cold Front and Intense Rains Expected in Mexico

The National Water Commission reported that intense and heavy rains are expected this weekend in various regions of Mexico. A new tropical wave is forecasted to approach the Yucatán Peninsula, bringing intense localized rains in Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, and Quintana Roo, as well as very heavy rains in Oaxaca, Veracruz, and Yucatán. Additionally, showers and heavy rains are expected in the northeast and east of the country, accompanied by possible hail and electrical discharges.

For the last week of October, the arrival of a new cold front is expected to approach the northwest of Mexico between Monday, October 28, and Tuesday, October 29. This cold front, interacting with a dry line in the north of the country, will cause strong winds with gusts in these regions, northeastern Mexico, and the Central Plateau.

After feeling the effects of hurricanes Milton and John in September, low temperatures are beginning to be felt in October. Conagua announced the arrival of a new cold front this Saturday, located in the north of Mexico, which will generate strong winds with possible dust storms in the north and northeast, as well as in the northern and central plateaus.

Temperatures are expected to range from -5 to 0 degrees Celsius with frost in mountainous areas of Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua, and Durango. In other regions such as Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, Jalisco, Michoacán, among others, minimum temperatures of 0 to 5 degrees Celsius are expected. Additionally, there is a possibility of snow or sleet on the mountain tops of the Popocatépetl, Iztaccíhuatl, and Pico de Orizaba volcanoes during the night of Saturday and early Sunday morning.

Finally, it is expected that the front will move towards the southeast of the United States, thus moving away from Mexican territory.
