Two tropical waves and three more phenomena, including a cold front, will cause heavy rains in 23 states of Mexico, where at least eight will face very strong to heavy rains, possible flooding, and snowfall or sleet in volcanic areas, according to the National Meteorological Service (SMN). In its report, the National Water Commission (Conagua Climate) reported that during the morning of this Monday, the cold front number 6 is expected to enter the northwest of Mexico, interacting with polar and subtropical jet streams.
This 'cocktail' of climatic conditions will cause low temperatures, strong winds, and dust storms in Baja California, Baja California Sur, Sonora, Chihuahua, and Coahuila, as well as isolated rains in Baja California and Sonora. This week, it is also anticipated that tropical wave number 28 will move through the south and west of the country, interacting with an upper-level trough extended over the northeast, center, and south, which will cause showers and heavy to very heavy rains with electrical discharges in the mentioned regions.
In addition, strong to very strong north component winds are expected in the Isthmus and Gulf of Tehuantepec. Snowfall or sleet is also anticipated during the morning in states of the central and eastern parts of the country, especially on the Popocatépetl, Iztaccíhuatl, and Pico de Orizaba volcanoes.
According to the SMN report, the expected precipitation for this Monday, October 28, is as follows: Heavy to very heavy punctual rains in Veracruz, Oaxaca, Chiapas, Tabasco, and Quintana Roo; intervals of showers with strong punctual rains in Guerrero, Campeche, and Yucatán; intervals of showers in Baja California, Tamaulipas, Hidalgo, Puebla, Tlaxcala, State of Mexico, Mexico City, Morelos, and Michoacán; and isolated rains in Sonora, San Luis Potosí, Querétaro, Guanajuato, Jalisco, and Colima.
In addition, a possible snowfall or sleet is expected during the morning at heights above 4,500 meters above sea level in the central and eastern parts of the country, on the Popocatépetl, Iztaccíhuatl, and Pico de Orizaba volcanoes. The climatic conditions will continue on October 29 and 30, with very heavy rains in Quintana Roo, heavy to very heavy punctual rains in Chiapas, Campeche, and Yucatán, and various levels of intensity in other regions of the country.
The SMN warns of extremely low minimum temperatures during the early hours of Wednesday in mountainous areas of several states, as well as a notable decrease in temperatures for Thursday, October 31, and Friday, November 1, in different regions of Mexico.
