Adverse Weather Conditions Forecasted in Mexico

The National Meteorological Service warns of strong rains and severe weather across several states in Mexico, including thunderstorms and potential flooding. Conditions are expected due to tropical waves and cold fronts interacting with moist air.

Adverse Weather Conditions Forecasted in Mexico

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) reported that tropical wave number 29 is expected to move over the Yucatan Peninsula and southeastern Mexico, generating heavy rains in several states of the country. Tropical wave 29 will interact with an extended trough over northeast, central, and southern Mexico in the upper levels of the atmosphere.

The SMN forecast very heavy rains in Quintana Roo and heavy rains in Campeche, Chiapas, Oaxaca, Tabasco, Veracruz, and Yucatán due to the interaction of the tropical wave with humid air from the Caribbean Sea. In addition, showers are expected in Mexico City, State of Mexico, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Puebla, Querétaro, Tamaulipas, and Tlaxcala, as well as isolated rains in Guanajuato and San Luis Potosí. Authorities warned about the possibility of electrical discharges and phenomena such as waterlogging and landslides in low-lying areas.

On the other hand, cold front 6 will continue to affect some states of the country, causing low temperatures in central and eastern Mexico. This front will move over Sonora and Chihuahua, maintaining the drop in temperature in the northwestern and northern regions of Mexico. Isolated rains are expected in Baja California, Chihuahua, Durango, Sinaloa, and Sonora, with wind gusts of up to 90 km/h in some areas.

Additionally, tropical wave 28 over the western part of the country, combined with humid air from the Pacific Ocean, will cause showers in Michoacán and isolated rains in Colima and Jalisco. Regarding temperatures, a warm environment is expected in the northwest, north, and northeast of the country, as well as in coastal states of the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific Ocean. Temperatures are expected to range from 35 to 40 degrees Celsius in Colima, Jalisco, Nayarit, and Sinaloa, and from 30 to 35 degrees in other entities of the country during the afternoon.
