Following the doubts raised in the community, the mayor of Querétaro, Felipe Fernando Macías, clarified that the municipal program to assist homeless people does not aim to remove them arbitrarily. The plan, which will be implemented in November, aims to provide temporary shelter for more than 500 individuals counted living on the streets, offering them job reintegration opportunities and health services.
The operation will be coordinated by the Municipal DIF and the Civil Protection Coordination, who will work together to provide those affected with a place to receive three daily meals, hygiene assistance, and the chance to learn a trade through the municipal job placement program. For those individuals with mental conditions or addictions, agreements will be established with health institutions and rehabilitation centers to provide them with appropriate care.
In the words of Mayor Macías Olvera, the aim is for homeless individuals to be invited to voluntarily settle in shelters, prioritizing respect for their human rights and public health. Those individuals whose behavior is violent or poses a risk to others will be referred to the Civic Courts or the appropriate authorities as necessary.
The municipal president emphasized the importance of acting within the legal and regulatory framework, without removing anyone from the public space arbitrarily. The main objective is to offer help and opportunities to those in vulnerable situations, promoting effective reintegration into society.
