Proposal to Ban Double-Trailer Trucks in Mexico

Federal deputy Carlos Puente Salas, from the Ecologist Green Party of Mexico (PVEM), has presented an initiative to prohibit the circulation of double trailer trucks on the country's roads. According to statistics from the Mexican Institute of Transportation, these trucks are involved in 3% of annual traffic accidents in Mexico, causing 2.2% of deaths and 1.6% of injuries.

Puente Salas argues that prioritizing the economic gains of companies over the safety of individuals is immoral. He points out that these trucks often exceed the dimensions and weights regulated by law, as well as violate speed limits, posing a danger to those traveling on the country's roads.

The proposal has been referred to the Communications and Transport Commission of the Chamber of Deputies for analysis. Debates are expected about the economic impact that this measure could have on the freight transport sector. The initiative highlights the importance of prioritizing the integrity of individuals over economic profits, opening a crucial debate on road safety and the regulation of freight transport in Mexico.

This measure aims to significantly reduce the number of accidents and deaths on Mexican roads. Double trailer trucks, with dimensions that can reach 32.5 meters in length and carry up to 70 tons of cargo, represent a risk to road safety by making maneuvers such as overtaking more difficult and increasing the risk of severe collisions.

According to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), more than 5,000 people die in traffic accidents in Mexico each year, of which 1,600 are related to trailers, especially double trailers. The initiative seeks to ensure the safety of drivers and reduce the number of accidents related to this type of vehicle, which are responsible for thousands of deaths annually.
