During the morning of this Tuesday, January 21, merchants carried out a blockade at the intersection of Avenida Insurgentes Sur and the Mexico-Cuernavaca highway, as well as on Viaducto Tlalpan, causing long traffic jams in the early hours of the day. The reason for this action was the demand to restore their trading space by a group of protesters and merchants from the town of San Andrés Totoltepec, near La Joya and El Caminero, the final stations of Line 1 of the Metrobús.

The protest started around six in the morning, according to the first images and reports from neighborhood group accounts in Tlalpan. The blockade has affected circulation in the La Joya area in Tlalpan, prompting intervention from authorities such as the Command, Control, Computing, Communications and Citizen Contact Center of Mexico City (C5). This agency showed scenes of the blockade through surveillance cameras in Colonia La Joya, highlighting people affected by the traffic congestion.

The group of protesters, composed of less than 20 people, is seeking to engage in dialogue with local authorities to address their demands. Meanwhile, traffic officers from the Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC) of Mexico City have been deployed to the area to regulate traffic and ensure safety during the protest. Additionally, drivers have been advised to use Calle Canela as an alternate route to avoid traffic congestion in the area.
