Secretariat Explains Reason for CIDE Director's Dismissal

The Secretariat of Science, Humanities, Technology, and Innovation (Secihti) detailed on Wednesday the reasons for the dismissal of José Antonio Romero Tellaeche as director of the Center for Economic Research and Teaching (CIDE). In a press release, the department stated that the decision is based "on his administrative responsibilities, for failing to comply with what is mandated in article 98 of the General Law in the matter and article 42 of the CIDE's bylaws, for not presenting the self-evaluation report in the last three years to the Academic Council and the General Assembly of the Center's Personnel, prior to its presentation to the Governing Body." It added that the CIDE community of students, workers, and researchers "made known on repeated occasions and publicly their discontent with the previous General Directorate." The department defended the appointment of Dr. Lucero Ibarra as interim director of CIDE. The appointment was perceived by the academic community as an attempt to weaken the strength of the school, characterized by public policy research. Students and teachers called for work stoppages and protests against the situation, but the federal government confirmed Romero's appointment at the time. The academic community demanded respect for the institution and repudiated the appointment.
