Mexico Launches Program to Support Deported Migrants

The Government of Mexico has developed a strategy to address the mass deportations of migrants in response to threats from Donald Trump. During the morning conference on Tuesday, January 21, the program 'Mexico Embraces You' was announced, which aims to facilitate employment for migrants deported by Trump. The Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, explained that compatriots returning to Mexico will have the opportunity to integrate into various types of employment and social welfare programs.

Rosa Icela Rodríguez detailed that the program will include cooperation with states and municipalities to welcome Mexicans returning from the United States. In her words: 'Where will they help us the most? In reintegration, in the issue of employment, of documents, of studies, helping us a lot, this is very important to give them a welcome in this strategy of 'Mexico Embraces You'.'

The program 'Mexico Embraces You' is part of the government strategy to address the deportations of migrants from the United States. This program consists of three fundamental actions: assistance and consular protection to guarantee migrants' rights, reception in the six border states, and reintegration to meet their basic needs such as access to health, employment, and social programs.

Migrants in Mexico can go to the service centers located in Mexicali, Baja California; Tijuana, Baja California; and Nogales, Sonora. The Secretary of the Interior informed that repatriated migrants will have immediate access to the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) to receive free medical care, as well as the Bienestar Paisano card with an amount of 2,000 pesos to support their transfers to their communities of origin.
