President Claudia Sheinbaum informed during her morning conference that she has had the first communication with the United States government since Donald Trump assumed the presidency. She highlighted that the first call they received was from Senator Marco Rubio, and it was attended by Foreign Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente. In this conversation, topics such as migration and security were addressed, marking the beginning of talks and relations with the United States.
Sheinbaum mentioned that this first communication was very cordial and positive. Additionally, she announced that the first attention centers have been established in border areas to receive Mexican migrants who are deported by Donald Trump's administration. This action is part of the coordination to receive fellow citizens and provide them with support in light of the immigration measures undertaken by the new U.S. government.
Regarding the decrees signed by Trump, the Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, detailed the repatriation program for migrants that will be implemented, including the delivery of the Bienestar Paisano card with benefits such as financial support and access to social programs like the Bienestar Pension, Youth Building the Future, and support for single mothers.
The Mexican government is working to strengthen its strategy to assist migrants and provide them with the necessary support in these times of change. Furthermore, Sheinbaum thanked the support of the 32 governors of the country against the threats of deportation and tariffs from Trump, emphasizing the importance of working together to provide assistance to migrants arriving in Mexico.
On another note, it was announced that the process of incorporating the Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers (ISSSTE) into the 'The Clinic is Ours' program is starting, with the aim of improving the infrastructure and equipment of first-level clinics for the benefit of beneficiaries. This program, already implemented in IMSS, seeks to involve the community in the management and improvement of health facilities.
