Mexico and US Begin Diplomatic Dialogues

The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, announced that her Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Juan Ramón de la Fuente, had a conversation with the newly appointed Secretary of State of the United States, Marco Rubio. According to Sheinbaum, this first official contact between both countries marks the beginning of a series of dialogues between Mexico and the United States.

During the telephone conversation, led by Foreign Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente and Marco Rubio, the Mexican president emphasized the importance of this first contact and expressed her optimism about the ability of both countries to reach agreements on various bilateral issues. Sheinbaum described the talks as very good and cordial, focusing mainly on issues of migration and security.

Among the topics discussed, Sheinbaum informed about the installation of care centers for migrants at the border and highlighted the reduction in the number of Mexicans leaving from the United States compared to previous days. The president rejected the measure that allows ICE to enter schools, hospitals, and churches to detain migrants and recommended that Mexicans in the United States approach consulates for protection and legal support.

Prior to the communication between Sheinbaum and Rubio, the Ministry of the Interior had announced the 'Mexico Embraces You' program to receive and support compatriots returning to Mexico voluntarily or being deported from the United States. The program includes economic support, access to medical services, and benefits from the Mexican government.

Donald Trump, after assuming the presidency of the U.S., had declared a 'national emergency' at the border with Mexico and promised mass deportations, which raised concerns in the Mexican government. However, this first contact between Sheinbaum and Rubio marked the beginning of diplomatic relations between both countries, paving the way for future agreements and dialogues.
