During his participation in 'Aristegui en Vivo', Alfredo Figueroa, political analyst and former electoral advisor of the IFE, analyzed the effects of the policies and the 'imperial' discourse that Donald Trump seeks to impose with his return to the presidency of the United States.
'This is a new discourse and a new imperial narrative that arises from Capitol Hill,' pointed out the analyst. Figueroa asserted that the U.S. president has implemented a style that combines narratives and unilateral actions, which represents a challenge for Mexico and internationally.
'Trump uses a discourse based on the distortion of reality to impose his narrative,' Figueroa stated. Figueroa explained that the strategy of confusing and polarizing public opinion has affected international relations by challenging agreements.
For Mexico, immigration policies, trade relations, and the fight against organized crime have been the main points of tension. The analyst noted that in Mexico, the actions of the U.S. government require a strong response from the Mexican government.
'This country has been brutally weakened for decades in institutions that were responsible for ensuring that there was no money from organized crime, and the current government's approach has been to devastate the institutions that were responsible not only for seeking justice but also for investigating related issues,' he pointed out.
The analyst suggested that the Mexican government should strengthen its institutions and build a narrative that counters the unilateral action proposed by the new President of the United States.
'This government needs to rethink the terms in which it exercises power within the country,' he emphasized.
