The state president of the National Action Party in Querétaro, Martín Arango, has announced that the facilities of the Municipal Directing Committees of his party will be available as temporary shelters for migrants who may be deported en masse from the United States. This decision is based on concerns about the possible implementation of stricter immigration policies by President Trump during his return to the White House.
Arango emphasized the importance of society being united to face the challenges ahead, especially regarding the possible increase in deportations. In this regard, he detailed that a plan will be implemented that will include the collection of food and, if necessary, transportation support for migrants. Querétaro is expected to be a key transit state for those heading south of the country, so instructions have been given to prepare shelters with a maximum stay capacity of two days, exclusively for families in transit.
According to data from the National Institute of Migration, between January and November of last year, 190,491 Mexicans were repatriated from the United States, including 2,668 people from Querétaro. In light of this situation, Arango has urged Querétaro committees to join the strategy for preparing temporary shelters for migrants.
In response to the strategy "Mexico embraces you" announced by President Claudia Sheinbaum, Arango expressed that the support of 2,000 pesos offered to migrants to cover their return expenses is insufficient. In contrast, he praised the proposal of the PAN parliamentary group in the Congress of the Union to establish a dedicated fund to cover the needs of repatriated individuals, such as food, housing, and transportation. The PAN leader reiterated the party's commitment to justice, human dignity, and the defense of the rights of all, including Querétaro families.
