Formation of Somos México as a New Party

The National Civic Front (FCN) has transformed into Somos México (Somos Mx), an organization that seeks to become an official political party. Somos MX has already started the process with the INE to compete in the 2027 elections. With the slogan of being neither left nor right, but solely about rights, they aim to be a real opposition to Morena and its allies.

Guadalupe Acosta Naranjo, the driving force behind this effort, mentioned that the main objective of Somos MX will be to oppose the government, which could represent their greatest challenge. Additionally, they aim to gather 500,000 members, double what is required by law, to ensure they meet the necessary requirements to register as a political party with the INE. Acosta Naranjo challenged the INE to audit their resources to prove that they are legal and come directly from citizenship.

Edmundo Jacobo Molina, former executive secretary of the INE, has joined these efforts with the aim of strengthening democracy in the country. Among the figures promoting this effort are Gustavo Madero, Macario Schettino, Mariclaire Acosta, and Fernando Belaunzarán, among others. Although the members of the group supported the opposition presidential candidate, Xóchitl Gálvez, the latter distanced herself from the initiative, claiming that she would support from citizenship.

For its part, the National Civic Front had previously announced its intentions to become a political party, submitting a request to the INE. Guadalupe Acosta Naranjo, spokesperson for the National Civic Front, informed that the request would be submitted on January 20. During the National Citizen Meeting 2.0, it was also agreed to initiate a dialogue process with other forces seeking to be a unified opposition in the country.
