At the Plenary of the National Action Party (PAN) held in Nuevo León, it was announced that deputy Elías Lixa Abimerh will assume the position of coordinator of the Congress of the Union, while Noemí Luna will hold the position of vice-coordinator of the parliamentary group. The decision to appoint Lixa as coordinator was unanimously supported by his party colleagues.
During the meeting, Jorge Romero, national coordinator of the PAN, expressed his concern about the lack of fulfillment of promises made by the "Mexico Embraces You" program. Romero pointed out that if the U.S. president is considered to be violating the treaty between Mexico, the United States, and Canada (T-MEC), Mexico has also violated previous agreements by eliminating autonomous bodies.
Regarding the PAN's legislative agenda, it was mentioned that it will focus on combating reforms in Infonavit and seeking to reduce the Special Tax on Production and Services (IEPS) on gasoline prices. However, it was acknowledged that there is not much enthusiasm from the PAN faction in the Chamber of Deputies for these proposals.
PAN legislators in Nuevo León will remain in the entity until Friday, January 24, debating crucial issues such as a possible alliance with the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) ahead of the 2027 elections. During the meeting, Elías Lixa Abimerh thanked the support of his parliamentary group and expressed his commitment to act with loyalty towards the party and the decisions of the national leadership.
Jorge Romero also questioned the lack of a clear stance regarding federalism and the need for a long-term plan in the current geopolitical context. He highlighted the importance of maintaining unity within the parliamentary group and the party. Lixa's designation as coordinator received the backing of local PAN leaders present at the Plenary.
