The Secretariat of Citizen Security of Mexico City (SSC) announced the detention of four alleged members of a criminal cell linked to the Sinaloa Cartel in the south of the Mexican capital. Among those detained are two men and two women, and firearms as well as more than 600 doses of drugs were seized during the operation.
The events took place in the municipalities of Iztacalco and Xochimilco as a result of investigations that identified two addresses used for storing and packaging drugs, according to Pablo Vázquez Camacho, head of the SSC. Authorities revealed that the detained criminal cell is associated with the Sinaloa Cartel and named the arrested individuals as Avacu Vera Vargas, María Guadalupe Martínez Herrera, Elva Hernández Villada, and José Emiliano Vera Hernández.
Vera Vargas, one of the detainees, has a criminal record for illegal deprivation of liberty in 2002. During the first search at a home in the Agrícola Oriental neighborhood, a 27-year-old woman was arrested, and multiple doses of methamphetamine, cocaine, and marijuana were seized. In the second search, carried out in Xochimilco, two men and a woman were arrested, and various illegal substances, firearms, and a military card were confiscated.
The operation coordinated by the SSC involved the participation of the Attorney General's Office, the Secretariat of National Defense, and the National Guard. This event is significant amidst the internal struggle between factions of the Sinaloa Cartel, which has resulted in more than 600 deaths in the northwest of Mexico.
