Claudia Sheinbaum Defends Carlos Slim Amid Tensions

The president of Mexico, Claudia Shienbaum, announced progress in the country's security strategy during a conference. In response to Donald Trump's proposal to classify cartels as terrorist groups, Shienbaum expressed that her government does not support this measure and is consulting with lawyers to understand its implications.

Amid tensions over drug trafficking between the United States and Mexico, Shienbaum defended Carlos Slim, a businessman linked by Elon Musk to organized crime cartels. The president stated that there is no ongoing investigation against Slim or his companies, calling the allegations false. She also emphasized that the strategy to combat organized crime is yielding results.

In response to a publication suggesting that Slim had ties to drug cartels in Mexico, Shienbaum categorically rejected these claims during a morning conference. That publication mentioned how labeling the cartels as terrorists could impact the economy of the United States.

Tycoon Elon Musk shared a message linking Slim to drug trafficking and, although he did not comment, he retweeted it with an emoji denoting scrutiny. Later, Musk retweeted another publication mentioning Slim as a millionaire with a great fortune and one of the largest shareholders of the New York Times. In light of this, the president reiterated the lack of basis for such accusations and reaffirmed her stance against any attempt to associate her with drug trafficking.
