Judicial Committee Resigns Amid Legal Conflicts

The five members of the Judicial Power Evaluation Committee for the judicial election resigned immediately, citing the "legal impossibility of continuing with the process." In a letter addressed to the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), the evaluators expressed that they could not fulfill the mandate for which they were appointed.

"We accepted the position of members of the Committee with the conviction that this could constitute an important space to guarantee the arrival of professional profiles to the election process, stemming from the constitutional reform to the Judicial Power," they mentioned. However, after the conflict with the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Power of the Federation (TEPJF), which had ordered to ignore a judicial suspension and suggested that the Senate assume the functions of the Committee, the members of the group deemed their constitutional task unfeasible.

The president of the Senate criticized the Judicial Power for halting the process due to an amparo from a judge in Michoacán, accusing the institution of being rogue and lacking legal ethics. Despite the resignation, the Committee members expressed their satisfaction with the work done. They highlighted the intense agenda of activities undertaken since their installation to select the best profiles, complying with the jurisdictional decisions.

Finally, they thanked the support received during the process from the ministers and the support team. On the other hand, Gerardo Fernández Noroña, president of the Senate's board of directors, celebrated the TEPJF's decision to ask the Senate to put the candidates for the judicial election directly into the lottery, which he considered a strengthening of the process by not leaving anyone out.
