The members of the Evaluation Committee of the Judiciary of the Federation, responsible for reviewing profiles and selecting candidates for the election of judges, have submitted their resignation due to what they consider a "legal impossibility." In a letter addressed to the full Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, they expressed that they perceive the constitutional task assigned to them as unfeasible.
The five members who resigned are Wilfrido Castañón León, Mónica González Contró, Emma Meza Fonseca, Hortencia María Emilia Molina de la Puente, and Luis Enrique Pereda Trejo. They had been appointed to form the committee tasked with defining the candidates for judges.
In their resignation statement, they expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the process and reiterated their commitment to continue working for human rights, democracy, and the Constitutional State of Law. They stated that they accepted to be part of the committee with the hope that it would ensure the arrival of professional profiles to the election of the Judiciary.
Through their statements, they made it clear that their resignation was immediate and irrevocable. They pointed out that since the establishment of the Committee, they had dedicated themselves to conducting a thorough selection of the best profiles, taking into account various jurisdictional decisions.
