
Norma Julieta Del Río Venegas, commissioner of INAI, confirmed in Aristegui en Vivo the presence of Iñigo Riestra, lawyer and secretary general of the Mexican Football Federation, in the office of the Internal Control Body (OIC) of the Institute. Riestra attended to file a complaint for extortion by officials of the organization against the Mexican Football Association (Femexfut) due to a fine of almost 23 million pesos for irregularities in the implementation of the Fan ID in the stadiums.
Del Río Venegas revealed that the Data Secretariat of INAI is preparing three more procedures against the FMF, in addition to stating that her vote against imposing additional sanctions is due to her belief that the Federation has addressed the recommendations made.
The commissioner learned of the complaint for alleged extortion after leaving a meeting with Raquel Buenrostro, head of the Anti-Corruption and Good Government Secretariat. Del Río Venegas explained that this case adds to the bad practices she has previously reported within INAI, noting that she has ordered a thorough review of the new procedures against the FMF.
Norma Julieta Del Río Venegas expressed her concern about the situation and the image of the institution, stating that it is necessary to clarify these facts to avoid negatively affecting INAI. Additionally, she recalled some irregular practices she became aware of upon taking office at the Institute, indicating that she cannot be an accomplice to these acts, and it is crucial to report them.
The commissioner emphasized the importance of using legal channels and appropriate procedures to clarify what happened and ensure transparency in the institutions. Del Río Venegas insisted that her vote against new sanctions on the FMF is based on the belief that the Federation has followed the relevant recommendations regarding the Fan ID and called for respect for the legal processes to address this situation seriously.
