Mexican Government Questions Texas Border Shooting Report

The Mexican government is investigating reports of a shooting at the US-Mexico border claimed by Fox News. Attorney General Alejandro Gertz Manero emphasized the need to separately address the shooting and migration issues, awaiting information from the US government.

Mexican Government Questions Texas Border Shooting Report

The Government of Mexico has expressed skepticism regarding the veracity of a supposed shooting at the border with the United States, reported by Fox News. According to this source, a Mexican criminal group allegedly attacked the Border Patrol while it was assisting migrants in Texas.

The Attorney General of the Republic, Alejandro Gertz Manero, emphasized the need to thoroughly investigate two aspects: who carried out the shootings and the movements of migrants, stressing that these are two distinct issues that require clarification. According to reports, Border Patrol agents were targeted in a shooting by an alleged Mexican drug cartel in an attempt to smuggle irregular migrants into Texas.

Although the news gained relevance the night before, Attorney Gertz Manero clarified that the events took place the week prior. The Government of Mexico has requested a report from the U.S. Government through diplomatic channels to clarify the situation. In this sense, the importance of differentiating between the shootings and the migratory movements, pending official confirmation, has been highlighted.

The Mexican government, following instructions from President Claudia Sheinbaum, has undertaken diplomatic efforts to obtain relevant information from U.S. authorities. A formal request has been initiated to determine if there are any criminal activities linked to the incident. Attorney Gertz Manero insisted on the need to wait until complete data is obtained before issuing an official response.

In another matter, the spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety, Chris Olivarez, reported that Texas authorities intervened to support the Border Patrol after agents were attacked by cartel members while patrolling in Fronton, Starr County. Texas will continue to closely monitor the area and will use all available resources to prevent transnational threats.

These events occur in the context of migratory and border security policies, where the management of undocumented immigration has generated tensions between Mexico and the United States. The mass deportations promised by former President Donald Trump continue to raise concerns in Mexico, given their impact on the Mexican community in the United States and on the country's economy.
