
The governor of Tabasco, Javier May, announced on Tuesday the detention of an individual possibly linked to the murder of journalist Alejandro Gallegos. Javier May reported through his official account that, as a result of the investigations carried out by the Attorney General's Office of Tabasco, a suspect related to the murder of the communicator was located and arrested. "We reiterate our commitment to zero impunity and guarantee effective justice," said the governor.
Gallegos León's body was found on Saturday, January 25, with gunshot wounds, after being reported missing a day earlier. The 51-year-old journalist was the director of the local media La Voz del Pueblo, collaborated with the newspaper Tabasco Hoy, and also taught at the Alfa y Omega University. According to the Attorney General's Office, Gallegos was last seen in the municipality of Centro.
The Office in Mexico of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (UN-DH) condemned the murder of Alejandro Gallegos León and called on the authorities to investigate the crime. "We urge the authorities to carry out an effective investigation that considers his journalistic work as a priority line of investigation," stated the UN-DH.
