The five members of the Evaluation Committee of the Federal Judiciary submitted their resignation due to the suspension of the candidate selection process for the judicial election. President Claudia Sheinbaum mentioned that the resignation was due to the SCJN's decision to halt the process, not due to the TEPJF's order to continue the selection by lottery.
"The Court had already told them that they would no longer be carrying out their activities," the president stated while explaining the committee's resignation. In this situation, Sheinbaum informed that the Senate will now randomly select the candidates, following the TEPJF's resolution.
The members of the Evaluation Committee, Wilfrido Castañón, Emma Meza, Mónica González, María Emilia Molina, and Luis Enrique Pereda, expressed in a letter that they were irrevocably resigning because they considered the constitutional task they had to be unfeasible. In the letter, they highlighted their commitment to work in favor of human rights, democracy, and the rule of law.
"We accepted the position of committee members with the conviction that this could constitute an important space to ensure the arrival of professional profiles to the election process," the committee members added in their resignation statement.
