Mexico's Government Launches 'Mexico Embraces You' Program for Repatriated Migrants

After the mass deportation of migrants from the United States during Donald Trump's presidency, the Government of Mexico has implemented the 'Mexico Embraces You' program to assist repatriates. President Claudia Sheinbaum detailed in the morning conference on Wednesday, January 29, the process for Mexican migrants to receive the Bienestar Paisano Card and other support, including the Bienestar Pension for Older Adults.

The procedure starts at migrant support centers established in border states, where a repatriation letter along with the Bienestar Paisano Card, which includes two thousand pesos, is delivered. For transportation, arrangements are also being coordinated to cover the costs to bring compatriots closer to their communities of origin.

Migrants interested in applying for the Bienestar Pension for Older Adults or other supports must present the repatriation document at a branch of Banco del Bienestar. The Migration Commission of the Chamber of Deputies approved reforms to the Law to facilitate procedures, allowing Mexicans to verify their nationality with the Unique Population Registry Code (CURP).

The Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, presented the 'Mexico Embraces You' program, which grants the Bienestar Paisano Card and the possibility to register in other Bienestar programs, such as the Bienestar Pension for older adults and persons with disabilities, Sembrando Vida, Bienestar Women's Pension, Health House by House, and scholarships like Youth Building the Future, Rita Cetina, and Benito Juárez.

These programs benefit women, older adults, children, and youth, aiming to provide them with access to the services of the Ministry of Wellbeing. 'Mexico Embraces You' also facilitates the integration of migrants into the health services of IMSS and ISSSTE, guaranteeing free medical care and access to vaccines.

In addition, Secretary Rosa Icela Rodríguez met with entrepreneurs to secure job opportunities for migrants in companies such as Femsa, Walmart, and Biopapel.
