On the morning of this Wednesday, federal and state authorities in Oaxaca confirmed an armed confrontation during an operation related to the disappearance of activist Sandra Estefanía Domínguez Martínez, whose whereabouts have been unknown since October 4, 2024.

Omar García Harfuch, the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection of Mexico, reported that while executing an arrest warrant in Veracruz for a person linked to the disappearance of the activist, elements of the SSPC and the Attorney General's Office of Oaxaca were attacked by armed men. According to official information, the personnel involved in the operation were shot at. At the scene of the confrontation, three long guns, one short gun, and various magazines were secured.

Harfuch lamented that one member of the SSPC was injured. When the security personnel were attacked, perceiving their lives to be in danger, they responded to the aggression in accordance with protocols for action and use of force, resulting in the deaths of the three aggressors. The operation took place near Federal Highway 147, on the Palomares-Tuxtepec stretch in Veracruz.

This member was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where minutes later he died due to his injuries. Meanwhile, the state Attorney General's Office, along with the SSPC, is already working to ensure that this regrettable incident does not go unpunished.
