Filmmaker Jacques Audiard, director of the movie 'Emilia Pérez', recently defended his work in the film and addressed several controversial topics. During his visit to Mexico, Audiard not only apologized for the criticism received but also touched on the issue of the disappeared in Mexican territory, expressing his surprise at the lack of discussion about this topic in France. In this regard, he mentioned: "The problem of the disappeared is something that scandalizes me and is a drama currently experienced (in Mexico) and I am surprised that this is not talked about in France."
In an interview for a French media outlet, Audiard made controversial comments about the Spanish language, describing it as a language of emerging, developing, modest, poor, and migrant countries. Despite his limitations with other languages, Audiard considered it a challenge to make a film in Spanish, stating that it allowed him to have a different approach in the production.
The director stated: "I barely speak any language other than French, and even so!, it put me in a very interesting relationship. On the contrary, it seems to me that singing smooths things out". Audiard explained that he approached the topic with caution and care, without intending to offend Mexicans. Despite the difficulties, he believes that immersing himself in a different language allowed him to explore a new artistic aspect.
Regarding 'Emilia Pérez', Audiard revealed that it would not be his last project in a language he does not master, highlighting his interest in music as a way to immerse himself in a language. This time, the filmmaker ventured into Spanish through music, expressing his satisfaction with the experience of singing and writing in a language different from his own.
